26. John⁴ Apgar (Frederick³, Frederick², Johannes Peter¹)⁽⁹³⁾ was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ August 18, 1805. Boss John died April 02, 1894 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 88 years of age. Buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey

He married twice. He married Mary Ann Gray in Warren Co, New Jersey, March 1, 1827. Mary was born 1807. Mary died May 28, 1837 at 29 years of age. Death date is recorded in the WFA cd#7 as May 28, 1827. By the ages of the children and the marriage of Rachel Godown and the birth of their first in 1838, either John had another wife or Mary's death has to be about 10 years later. I have recorded it as so in this research.

He married Rachel Godown in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, about 1838. Rachel was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey March 08, 1814. In the 1900 census her birth date is recorded as March 1812. Rachel⁽⁹⁴⁾ was the daughter of Unknown Parents GodownUnknown.

Rachel died July 18, 1904 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 90 years of age. Buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey Godown may be he married name. In the 1850 census she is recorded with her husband John Apgar. They were married in 1838 and was John's second marriage. Also recorded is an Ann Godown age 17. Rachael would have been 19 at Ann's birth. If this is the case, who was Rachael married to? In the 1840 census Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ page 291, John Apgar is recorded with 1 male under 5, 2 maile 10-15, 1 male 15-20, and 1 male 40-50, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, and 1 female 40-50. Total in the family is 8. He is recorded only a couple of lines from Fredrick Apgar (age 60-70) with a family of 7.

In the 1850 census Alexandria Twp Hunterdon Co NJ page 198, John (age 44) is recorded with Rachel (age 36), Harmon (age 11), William (age 20), Isabella (age 6), Milton (age 4), Emily (age 7m) and Ann Godown (age 17).

In the 1870 census Alexandria Twp Hunterdon Co page 27B, John (age 63) is living with his wife Rachael (age 56) and child Homer (age 15)

In the 1880 census Alexandria Twp Hunterdon Co page 205, John (age 73) is living with his wife Rachael (age 65), Homer (age 25), daughter-in-law Augusta (age 22), Charles Apgar (age 1), Alison Stout (age 19) and Layfaette Stout (age 11).

John Apgar and Mary Ann Gray had the following children:

49 i. Jane⁵ Apgar was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1828.

50 ii. William M Apgar was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1830. William died 1856 at 26 years of age. He married Sarah Ann Johnson about 1850. Sarah was born in New Jersey 1821. Sarah died December 1851 at 30 years of age.

+ 51 iii. John Apgar was born 1835.

+ 52 iv. Lemuel Apgar was born 1836.

53 v. Harmon K Apgar was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1838. Harmon died 1868 Bloomsbury Cemetery, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 30 years of age. He married Penninah Wright about 1856. Penninah was born 1836. Penninah died 1912 Bloomsbury Cemetery, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 76 years of age.

John Apgar and Rachel Godown had the following children:

55 vii. Isabella Apgar was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1844. Isabella died March 1930 at 85 years of age. She married John Hamilton Vansyckle Brooklyn, New York, about 1860. John was born in New Jersey 1839. (See John Hamilton Vansyckle for the continuation of this line.)

56 viii. Milton Apgar was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1846. Milton died 1924 at 78 years of age. He married Hattie unknown about 1870. Hattie was born about 1850.

57 ix. Emma Apgar was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ March 20, 1850. Emma died May 11, 1931 Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 81 years of age. She married Jacob B Smith about 1876. Jacob was born in New Jersey March 13, 1830. i0 In the 1870 census Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co page 27B, Jacob and Emma are living with Emma parents.

In the 1880 census Kingwood Twp Hunterdon Co NJ page , Jacob (age 34) is recorded with Emma (age 30), Norman? A (age 9), bertha Demott (age 5) and Catherine Leonard (age 66). Jacob is a farmer and all births are NJ.

+ 58 x. Homer Apgar was born October 7, 1854.
