5. Benjamin³ Bortmass (John Rudolph², Adam¹)⁽⁴²⁷⁾ was born in Donegal Twp, Butler Co, PA January 20, 1810.

He married Mary Elizabeth Coleman in Butler Co, PA, April 28, 1837. Mary was born in Pennsylvania 1818. In the 1850 census Fairview Twp, Butler Co PA page 228, Benjamin age 40) is recorded with Mary (age 32), Rudolph (age 11), Mary (age 10), John (age 8), Claranda (age 4). Benjamin is a farmer and all births are recorded as in PA.

Benjamin Bortmass and Mary Elizabeth Coleman had the following children:

11 i. Rudolph⁴ Bortmass was born in Butler Co, PA December 1838. He married Pauline unknown in Pennsylvania, 1862. Pauline was born in Pennsylvania December 1843. In the 1900 census Fairview Twp Butler Co PA page 34, Rudolph (age 61) is living with his family. They have been married for 38 years, have had 10 children with 7 living at the time of the census.

12 ii. Mary J Bortmass was born in Butler Co, PA 1840.

13 iii. John C Bortmass was born in Butler Co, PA 1842. John died May 12, 1864 at 21 years of age. John C. Bortmass. Killed at Spottsylvania Court House, 12 May 1864

14 iv. Clarinda Bortmass was born in Butler Co, PA 1846.
