1. Machias¹ Buchanan was born in New Jersey 1784.

He married Elizabeth Kuhl. Elizabeth was born in New Jersey 1788. In the 1850 census Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co NJ page 19, Machias (age 65) is recorded with Elizabeth (age 61), Alexander (age 21), Alfred (age 20), and Elizabeth (age 18). Machias is a farmer and all births are NJ.

Machias Buchanan and Elizabeth Kuhl had the following children:

2 i. Alexander² Buchanan was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey July 15, 1827. Alexander died December 6, 1858 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 31 years of age.

+ 3 ii. Alfred J Buchanan was born May 22, 1829.

4 iii. Elizabeth E Buchanan was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1831.
