17. Nathan⁵ Linton (Samuel⁴, Benjamin³, John², Roger¹)⁽³⁴³¹⁾ was born Bucks Co, Pennsylvania January 17, 1778. Nathan died February 11, 1858 in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH, at 80 years of age.

He married Rachel Smith in Center Meeting, Wilmington, Ohio, December 31, 1806. Rachel was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH January 18, 1790. Rachel died April 4, 1859 in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH, at 69 years of age. In the 1850 census Union Twp, Clinton Co Ohio page 371, Nathan (age 72) is recorded with Rachel (age 60), Benjamin (age 27), Cyrus (age 25), Lydia (age 23), Alfred (age 4), and Samuel (age 2). Nathan is a farmer born in PA.

From the "History of Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio", Volume 2 page 108:

"During the period of pioneer development in Ohio, the Linton family was founded in the state, although at that time Ohio was still under territorial government. It was in 1802 that Nathan Linton, the grandfather, came to the then far west as the uthorized agent to survey, subdivide and sell the lands granted by the government to General Horatio Gates in consideration of the services which he rendered during the Revolutionary war. These lands were all located in Clinton County, Ohio..... The ancestors of the family, so far as known, were all members of the Friends or Quakers church, and were among the early colonists who, following the leadership of William Penn, settled along the banks of the Delaware."

Nathan Linton and Rachel Smith had the following children:

22 i. Elizabeth⁶ Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH July 29, 1807.

23 ii. Abi Linton⁽³⁴³²⁾ was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH November 25, 1808. She married Josiah Farquhar in Center Meeting, Wilmington, Ohio, December 2, 1829. Josiah was born in Maryland February 19, 1802. Josiah died April 9, 1838 in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH, at 36 years of age.

+ 24 iii. Samuel Smith Linton was born November 17, 1810.

25 iv. Seth Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH October 5, 1812. Seth died November 5, 1895 in Clinton Co, Ohio, at 83 years of age. In the 1850 census Union Twp, Clinton Co Ohio page 371, Seth (age 37), is recorded with Sarah (age 31), Nathan (age 12), Nancy (age 10), Rachel (age 8), Joshua (age 7), Oliver (age 5) and Amanda (age 1). Seth is recorded as a farmer born in Ohio.

26 v. David Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH January 30, 1815.

27 vi. James Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH January 17, 1817.

28 vii. Mary Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH April 21, 1818. Mary died June 14, 1899 at 81 years of age.

29 viii. Nathan Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH May 21, 1822.

30 ix. Benjamin Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH May 7, 1823.

31 x. Cyrus Linton was born in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH April 17, 1825. Cyrus died March 26, 1914 in Wilmington, Clinton Co, OH, at 88 years of age.

32 xi. Ruth Linton was born in Union Co, Illinois April 23, 1827.
