Bob was born July 30, 1921, in Chicago, IL, the son of Vernon and Marie Lilliston. Following graduation from Oak Park High School, Oak Park, IL, he attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA, and then joined the United States Marine Corps in February 1942, serving in the South Pacific with the capture and defense of Guadalcanal Defense and the Mariana Operation. Following his marriage to Katie Skow of Newton, IA, in December 1944, he entered Kansas State University, graduating as a licensed architect. Bob served as Chief Architect with the Kansas City Southern Railroad for 17 years and joined the Alfred Lindgren Construction Company and later was Director for Construction and Engineering for Farmland Industries until retiring in 1984. As a member of the Abdallah Shrine Temple, Bob was active in the Greeters Unit and held several offices. Serving more than 10 years as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals of the city of Overland Park, Bob also was a member of the Johnson County Zoning Board. He served a term as an officer of the Parkway 103 Condominium Board. He had served as an elder of the Overland Park Presbyterian Church. Following retirement, he was a volunteer at the Galveston Burn Institute. He also held membership in the LaFitte Society of Galveston, TX. He was a yearly judge at the Lenexa Barbeque Competitions and was known for his preparation of his outstanding fish gumbo and his knowledge and enthusiasm for blues music. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Lilliston Godowns. He is survived by his wife, Katie Lilliston; daughters, Patricia Lilliston, Arvada, CO, Barbara Lilliston, and her husband, Tom Fedorek, New York; a son, Andy and his wife, Jane, Plano, TX; a brother, Lester Lilliston, and his wife, Eddee, Santa Fe, NM; and four grandchildren, Melanie, Drew, Nicholas and Elizabeth.
