He married twice. He married Lydia Stout about 1843. Lydia was born 1820. Lydia was the daughter of Zebulon Stout. Lydia died October 11, 1850 in New Jersey, at 30 years of age. buried at Everittstown Cemetery, Everittstown Hunterdon Co NJ

He married Rachel A Myers in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, March 10, 1852. Rachel was born in New Jersey 1822. Had 8 children and lived near Quakertown NJ.

In the 1850 census Franklin, Hunterdon, New Jersey page 98B, John (age 29) is recorded with Lydia (age 27), Eliza (age 6), Wilson (age 4), and Sarah (age 3). John is a farmer and all births are NJ.

In the 1860 census P.O. Quakertown Franklin Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey page 427, John (age 45) is recorded with Rachel (age 37), Eliza (age 15), Wilson (age 13), Sarah (age 12), Emarillis (age 3), and Mary (age 2). John is a farmer and all births are NJ.

In the 1870 census P.O. Cherryville, Franklin Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey page 203, John (age 55) is recorded with Rachel (age 58), Eliza (age 25), Wilson (age 24), Sarah (age 22), Emarillis (age 13), and Mary (age 12), and Charles (age 10). John is a farmer and all births are NJ.

In the 1880 census Franklin Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey page 2, John (age 64) is recorded with Eliza (age 34), Sarah (age 32), Mary (age 22), and Charles (age 20). John is a farmer and all births are NJ.

John Leonard and Lydia Stout had the following children:

25 ii. Wilson Leonard was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1846.
