Jacob died July 17, 1887 Montgomery Co, Illinois, at 65 years of age. Buried at Harts Church Cemetery, Montgomery County, Illinois His body was interred July 19, 1887 Montgomery Co, Illinois, Hart Cemetery.
He married twice. He married Matilda Martindell in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, March 10, 1843. other research had the marriage date year as 1842. Hunterdon County marriage records show it as 1843.
Mellie was born in New Jersey April 19, 1824. Mellie died September 18, 1871 Montgomery Co, Illinois, at 47 years of age. Buried at Harts Church Cemetery, Montgomery County, Illinois
Her body was interred September 20, 1871 Montgomery Co, Illinois, Hart Cemetery. Other research have her name as Matilda Martin Dell. The Hunterdon County marriage records have her last name as Martindell. That spelling is used here.
He married Susan J McWilliams Montgomery Co, Illinois, October 23, 1873. Susan was born about 1830. (Additional notes for Susan J McWilliams(1371)) Susan died before 1880. A little discrepancy on the middle name. Some research has it as Seabers and others have it as Leben. Need clarification
In the 1850 census Amwell, Hunterdon Co, page 3a, we have Jacob (middle initial looks like L) and Matilda living in the house in the census list next to Evan. They have two children, Oliver (age 5) , and Derrick(age 1).
In the 1860 census Montgomery Co, IL page 140, Jacob (age 37) is living with his wife Matilda (age 35) and 4 children and brother George. John is listed as having the occupation of Farmer with a personel value of $650 and the farm is listed under George at $2,500.
There is a Jacob S Godown recorded as having purchased 60 acres in S. Litchfield IL Section 36.
In the 1870 census Hillsboro, Walshville Twp, Montogomery Co Illinois page 259, Jacob (age 50) is recorded with Matilda (age 47), H.Deirick (age 21), Geo M (age 17), Emily (age 17) and M.J. (age 14). Geo and Emily are noted as twins. Jacob is a farmer born in NJ.
In the 1880 census South Litchfield, Montgomery Co, Illinois page 243B, Jacob (age 56) is living with his daughter Matilda (age 17).
In a letter dated Feb 14, 1973, Albert lists a John Evan and a Jacob Leben as the Godown's that moved to IL.

Emmaretta Godown was born in Litchfield, Montgomery Co, IL March 03, 1853. Emily died September 02, 1888 at
35 years of age. She married Henry L. Bailey Montgomery Co, Illinois, September 14, 1871.
Henry was born Illinois January 23, 1849. Henry died August 17, 1916 at 67 years of age. (See Henry L. Bailey for the continuation of this line.) Listed in the IGI as Emma R Godown

17) is recorded twice in the 1880 census, once with her father Jacob, and once with the Joel Colby family in Zanesville Illinois,
