In the 1870 census Philadelphia Ward 18 District 55, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 401 Edwin (age 6) is listed with Andrew Godon (age 43). Andrew is a Cuterley Maker born in NJ.

In the 1880 census Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 242, Edwin (age 16) is noted as a glass blower and in the household of Francis Raymond. Edwin and parents were born in PA.

Edwin is listed in the Philadelphia City Directory, 1890 as the manager of Continental hotel, h 1206 Ash

In the 1900 census Philadelphia Ward 18, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 75B, Edwin (age 35) is recorded with his wife Lizzie (age 29) son Howard (age 4) and a boarder Mary Frederick (age 50). They have been married for 8 years and have had 1 child. All were born in PA except Edwins father who was born in NJ.

In the 1910 census 18-Wd Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 190B, Edwin (age 45) is recorded as Son-in-law to Mary Fredricks (age 60) and with her daughter Lizzie (age 40). Edwin and Lizzie have been married for 18 years and have had 1 child not living at the time of the census . Edwin is a railroad stenographer. Edwin was born in PA, his father in NJ and mother in PA.

In the 1920 census Philadelphia Ward 18, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 39, Edwin Gadoffer? (age 55) is recorded with his wife Elizabeth (age 50) and son John (age 19). Edwin is a Pulman Car stenographer. Edwin was born in PA, his father in NJ and mother in PA.

In the 1930 census Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania page 143B, Edwin (age 65) is recorded with his wife Ethel (age 43). Edwin is a Pulman car Clerk born in PA. Edwin was first married at age 27 and Ethel at age 43).
