Francis Emery¹² Godown (Oliver James¹¹, Jacob Seabers¹⁰, Evan⁹, John⁸, Evans⁷, Jacob⁶, Jacob⁵ Goedowne, Abraham⁴, Jacob³ Godon, Abraham², Main Family Line¹ Godown)⁽¹⁶⁷⁵⁾ was born Montgomery Co, Illinois September 7, 1870. Emery died March 4, 1907 in Coffeen, Montgomery Co, IL, at 36 years of age.

He married Florence Jones Hillsboro, Montgomery Co, IL, December 31, 1891. Florence was born in Coffeen, Montgomery Co, IL January 22, 1867. Florence⁽¹⁶⁷⁶⁾ was the daughter of Eli Alexander Jones and Sarah Catherine Thacker. Florence died April 14, 1941 in Nokomis, Montgomery Co, IL, at 74 years of age. In a letter from Bernice dated January 31, 1973, she lists her father's name as Frank Alva Godown. Need clarification since all other research points to Francis (Census, other letters etc)

In a later latter from Bernice dated May 7, 1974, she lists her father as Francis Emery Godown. Guess that clears that up. Also in that letter she writes about the McKegg family that took her father at age 2 and her aunt Millie was taken by the Clotfelter family when she was about 10 years old.

In the 1870 census Hillsboro Twp, Montgomery Co Illinois page 242, E. F. Godown (age 9) is recorded as an orphan with James McCarg (age 66) and family. E.F. was born in Illinois.

In the 1900 census Grisham Twp Montgomery Co, Illinois page 96B, Frank (age 24) is living with his wife Florence (age 23), daughters Lura (age 7) and Bernice (age 2). Frank has the occupation of Farmer and owns his home with a mortgage. They have been married for 7 years and have had 2 children still living. Frank was born in Illinois, his father in Kentucky and his mother was birth place was unknown.

Francis Emery Godown and Florence Jones had the following children:

507 i. Lura Eunice¹³ Godown⁽¹⁶⁷⁷⁾ was born Montgomery Co, Illinois February 17, 1893. Lura died April 9, 1970 at 77 years of age. She married unknown Kessel. Unknown was born about 1895. (Additional notes for unknown Kessel⁽¹⁶⁷⁸⁾)

508 ii. Bernice Oweato Godown⁽¹⁶⁷⁹⁾ was born in Sorento, Bond Co, IL March 23, 1898. Bernice died January 1984 in El Centro, Imperial Co, CA, at 85 years of age. She married John Thomas Pier in Carlyle, Clinton Co, IL, September 22, 1917. John was born April 30, 1893. (Additional notes for John Thomas Pier⁽¹⁶⁸⁰⁾) John died March 1971 in Nokomis, Montgomery Co, IL, at 77 years of age. Bernice has a step father.

+ 509 iii. Clinton Alva Godown was born March 25, 1901.
